PRIN: PROGETTI DI RICERCA DI RILEVANTE INTERESSE NAZIONALE – Bando 2022 PNRR

The GIVRE project heard by the Italian Parliament’s Inquiry Committee into Femicide and Gender-based Violence

On 12 February 2026, the GIVRE project entered the institutional arena to provide a concrete
contribution to the fight against gender-based violence. Mariacristina Sciannamblo, in her role as
project coordinator, was heard by the Italian Parliament’s Inquiry Committee into Femicide and
Gender-based Violence.

During the hearing, the main findings emerging from the qualitative phase of the research were
presented, particularly those based on the interviews and focus groups conducted within the
project. The presentation highlighted several structural critical issues characterizing forms of
digital gender-based violence and experiences of exposure to risk in digital environments, while
also providing targeted policy recommendations addressed to institutions, platforms, and
stakeholders involved in prevention and response efforts.

Participating in the Commission’s proceedings represents an important opportunity for dialogue
between academic research and policymakers, and demonstrates the relevance of the results
produced by the GIVRE project within the institutional debate on technology-mediated gender-
based violence.

This hearing constitutes a significant recognition of the work carried out and of the contribution
that research can offer to the development of evidence-informed interventions.
